I started working on this painting towards the end of January last year. Sketching out different compositions as I had gotten the idea for a new painting. And a few weeks later my father passed away.
Inevitably, when I returned to this painting later it changed a lot.
Back in the day I used to draw Kratos a lot, at the end of my notebooks or any sketchbook I had, filled with drawings trying to replicate the cover paintings and concept art. Was a fitting outlet for a lot of anger.
Suffice to say my father knew of my fondness for the game and he found a nice tshirt with that classic GoW3 painting on the front when the game came out. Still got that shirt.
Much like most boys, had a complicated relationship with my father. Alas I'd have hoped he could have experienced the story of Kratos and Atreus, he wasn't a gamer. I've seen many stories of sons and fathers sitting together for the new God of War and connect on a better ground. I would like to think, lately, he would have had an understanding watching Kratos' self reflection.
Anyways, this piece started off much simpler in concept, a homecoming for Kratos. And changed to a more... stoic, I suppose, theme.
Hope you like it, I know some of you have been asking for ages for me to make a new GoW piece. But the years since the last one have been... eventful. Hopefully I'll make some more quicker :)
